SHE may be a princess, but Kate Middleton is just like the rest of us when it comes to wanting to make a fuss about her children on their birthdays.

Prince Louis is set to turn six on April 23rd and just like in previous years, the proud mum-of-three will try and make the day as special as possible for him, following a touching tradition.

The Princess of Wales revealed a family tradition when she spoke to Mary Berry

After kissing goodnight to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and brother Prince Louis, she may spend the evening in the kitchen baking a special birthday cake to mark the occasion.

Back in 2019, the royal appeared in Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas and revealed that she “loves” making her children’s birthday cakes from scratch – and it’s now become somewhat of a household tradition.

“It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much,” she said.

“But I love it,” she added.

And with her daughter Charlotte’s ninth birthday just one week later on May 2, it’s likely she’ll be keeping herself busy in the kitchen.

Royal correspondent Danielle Stacey told Hello magazine: “The Princess of Wales’s number one priority has always been her children since becoming a mother and she has been supporting George, Charlotte and Louis through all their major milestones, including George’s first big exams last year.

She continued: “We’ve seen the Princess take some incredibly fun and playful portraits of her children over the years and baking their birthday cakes so she’s likely to feel that it’s important to keep those traditions going to maintain a sense of normality.”

CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Prince Louis’ birthday comes just weeks after Kate released a heartfelt video announcing to the world that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing “preventative chemotherapy“.

Royal expert Jennie Bond claimed that Kate will likely be taking time out to recover and heal over the Easter break with her children.

“I expect Catherine and William will blank out any talk of her illness with the kids,” she said, speaking to Bella magazine.

“She says she’s getting stronger every day so I’m sure she’s doing her best to join in the outdoor life – the picnic, barbecues and walks on the beach.”

In the courageous video, the princess told how the diagnosis had come as a “huge shock” to her and her husband Prince William and that they had taken time to explain everything to their three children “in a way that is appropriate for them”.

She said: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family but I have had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me for which I am so grateful.

“Most importantly it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
